IOU Reports for the BMW II |

Okay groovers & shakers, for those who didn't make it - why weren't you there ? BMW II was held again at the most excellent Inside Park in Dorset. My camera bust when I turned it on so I had to rely on Roger's digi cam, great when the batteries are charged, but less use than a sausage to a walkman when flat. Dave took a few shots too but after a coming together of cars he's taken a while to get his photos to me, but they are now here !
Got there rather later than planned, mind the weather was a tad wet, better to set tent up in dry anyway, tent up, pub time. This year, I bought along the right car.
Those enthused by the will to unicycle what ever the weather/distance/danger uni-ed to the pub, whilst the rest of drove after a pizza trip to Blandford. The usual madcap uni-ideas were discussed over several pints. Saturday morn, we all got up nice and early (ish) and loaded up Jerry's van to dive deep into puddle town forestOff we set 24 in all, a good split 12/12 in the shorter/longer ride catagories, the planned routes met up on several occations for wobbly bits and general fun. Saturday afternoon we came back to run the gaunlet in the form of the orienteering event. The format similar to a trail quest event - for those not familiar you get a map with check points to visit. Person who visits the most wins. Easy? Yes if you a fast super hero and good with a map. A navigation blunder and a couple of falls hampered my progress - I fell off on some barbed wire and was lucky to only rip my shorts & underware not skin ! I was cursing Paul who'd set up the course, it was very challenging and well set out, proving that only the fastest could possibly collect ALL check points, erm, was that Doger Davies or a speeding bullet? Results you can see @ Saturday evening we had the barbie and some lager.... And then... went to play uni-hoc in a barn on the farm, makeshift, impro, you name it, we swept up the dust, put some wooden fencing poles around the dangerous items lying around (such as barbed wire etc) and had a blast. We had enough for 4 teams of 5 plus some subs, under the dull lighting we played it out until about midnight. I don't know who won, but I don't think the winners really cared, twas only a bit of fun.... No one had a camera L On Sunday morning we set up a quick slalom course which was fun, Muni/Coker you name it, it was tried, there's some video clips floating around on Barry's Camcorder which we might be able to convert into MPEG or something. I spent a whole week knocking up a super ramp which a few people had a go out but we didn't make a major event of ! I didn't get to try my SPD bike pedals either (good or bad thing ? you decide !) and lastly I never did tie a piece of rope between a tree and try ye olde unicycling on a tight rope, however it would have been anything but tight - climbing rope is not what you need for this type of activity. However I have a better idea of what to do with a length of rope and a unicycle suggested to me by Michel Schappely from France - what's that you ask? Come back to the IOU homebase in a year or so and you'll see ! During the BMW2 I bought a house over the phone. That's why there's been a month and a bit between taking and publishing these pics, but hey, they are here to stay !And again, a big thankyou to Paul & Sarah for organising everything and Jerry for letting us using Inside Park as the BMW 2 base.
